*"Redefining Korean Identity in Music: Historical and Contemporary
*Feb. 26^th and 27^th , 2010, at the Pyle Center (McInerney Room -- 335)
Come hear distinguished scholars from Korea, Canada, and the U.S.
discuss issues related to Korean identity in Korea's music, and enjoy
performances on Saturday evening of /Pansori /(solo story singing) and
/Pungmul /(traditional drumming)!
/Summary of events:/
Friday at 4pm there will be a key-note address by Prof. *Byong-won Lee*,
of University of Hawai'i at Manoa
Saturday, Feb. 27th from 10am-5pm there will be presentations and
discussions from *In-Pyong Chun* (Chung Ang University, Korea), *Chan E.
Park* (Ohio State University), *Okon Hwang* (Eastern Connecticut State
University), *Peggy Choy *(UW-Madison), *R. Anderson Sutton*
(UW-Madison), *Nathan Hesselink* (University of British Columbia),
*Eun-Young Jung* (University of California, San Diego), *Tong Soon Lee*
(Emory University), and *Richard Miller *(UW-Madison)
After Saturday's presentations there will be a banquet with musical
performances by Prof. Chan E. Park (/Pansori/) and by the Korean
drumming group /Ulssu./
The event is *free* and open to the public.
This event is organized and will be chaired by Eun-Young Jung,
