The successful candidate will contribute to the research at the Center and teach 4 hours per week during the semester. The search is open as to disciplinary specialization, though applications from scholars coming from economics, political economy, or political science are of particular interest. We prize scholars who generate premium academic research and use this to provide dynamic teaching. Working experience in a medium or large company would be a plus.&lt;br /&gt;&#10;Requirements are an above-average PhD and fluency in English, Japanese or Korean, fluency in German is desired. Applications from candidates who are starting their PhD will also be considered if they are exceptionally strong. In this case, the position will be divided into two half-positions. The successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to raising the Center’s profile in the study of economic, political and social developments in contemporary East Asia. The successful candidate will be prepared to offer courses in elementary, intermediate and/or advanced Korean language. The Korean language lecturer will play a vital role in our innovative learning model that accommodates the needs of students spread among the five campuses. Previously, she has pursued studies in Economics (B.A. in Economics 2001, University of National and World Economy) and Gender Studies (M. Phil.2006, Sofia University). In her doctorate The Nature of Migrant, Silvia examines the multi-fold role of contemporary migrants in the environmental movement in Australia from a feminist perspective. Silvia’s other research interests and experience lie within the field of science, technology and society. Silvia has participated in a nation-wide project of Desert Knowledge investigating the social effects of mining development in Australia, and more specifically examining the gender impacts of the resource-extracting industry. &lt;/p&gt;&#10;&#10;&#9;&lt;p&gt;Silvia’s interests span across the governmental and non-governmental sectors. She has a copious international experience (Australia, Bulgaria, Russia, Czech Republic, New Zealand and the UK) in both the governmental sector (Ministry of Fisheries, Wellington) and non-governmental sectors (Earthwatch Institute, Oxford). Silvia’s academic interest and research also includes a three-year comparative study on biomimcry in Western Australia and in Eastern Europe. This appointment is not on the tenure track. &lt;/p&gt;&#10;&#10;&#9;&lt;p&gt;Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent that focuses on any aspect of Korean society, history, politics or culture by the date of appointment.  The appointee will join the new, interdisciplinary Korean Studies program that is building from our existing Korean Language minor.  Applicant should have a demonstrated capacity to develop and teach courses that explore Korea in an interdisciplinary mode and in the context of Korea’s increasing global impact and engagement.  A willingness and capacity to teach courses that connect to at least one of the following would be favorably considered: (a) another of the School’s Area Studies programmes; and (b) the emerging programme in Global Creative Industries.  Capacity to work in English and Korean is fundamental to the position.
